Steel Dominant in First Hit Out
The Ascot Park Hotel Southern Steel blitzed the opposition in its first pre-season hit-out in Christchurch at the weekend – to the satisfaction of coach Robyn Broughton.
In dominant form, the Steel were unbeatable against fellow ANZ Championship side the Canterbury Tactix and the visiting Eastwood Ryde – a New South Wales state team invited along to inject some Australian style. On Saturday, the Steel proved too tough for the Tactix, posting a healthy 56-40 victory after leading 12-11, 30-19 and 43-30 at each quarter. READ MORE

Dehn to lead Steel in 2010 Championship season
Inspirational attacker Megan Dehn will lead the Ascot Park Hotel Southern Steel in its pursuit of the 2010 ANZ Championship silverware.
Despite a lengthy stint in netball's elite ranks, the former Australian international admits the leadership appointment took her by surprise. “It was a bit of a shock ... there's so many experienced girls in our team,” she said. While excited about her new role, Dehn also planned to utilise the wealth of experience on offer within the Steel when required, particularly that of vice-captain Wendy Frew (nee Telfer). “I think it's going to be a really good partnership,” Dehn said. Winner Enjoys the South in Style
Steel members who repurchased their 2010 Steel Membership prior to 19th December 2009, went into a draw to win a brand new KIA vehicle for a week with a full tank of petrol. The draw was held in association with KIA Motors with the car kindly supplied by Southland Vehicle Sales. The lucky winner was Barbara MacDonald who, along with her husband Stan, enjoyed the luxury of a new KIA Sportage for a week travelling around Southland.
