Steel Dominant in First Hit Out

The Ascot Park Hotel Southern Steel blitzed the opposition in its first pre-season hit-out in Christchurch at the weekend – to the satisfaction of coach Robyn Broughton.

In dominant form, the Steel were unbeatable against fellow ANZ Championship side the Canterbury Tactix and the visiting Eastwood Ryde – a New South Wales state team invited along to inject some Australian style. On Saturday, the Steel proved too tough for the Tactix, posting a healthy 56-40 victory after leading 12-11, 30-19 and 43-30 at each quarter. READ MORE

Dehn to lead Steel in 2010 Championship season

Inspirational attacker Megan Dehn will lead the Ascot Park Hotel Southern Steel in its pursuit of the 2010 ANZ Championship silverware.

Despite a lengthy stint in netball's elite ranks, the former Australian international admits the leadership appointment took her by surprise.
“It was a bit of a shock ... there's so many experienced girls in our team,” she said.
While excited about her new role, Dehn also planned to utilise the wealth of experience on offer within the Steel when required, particularly that of vice-captain Wendy Frew (nee Telfer).
“I think it's going to be a really good partnership,” Dehn said.
