In fact, it all comes down to our next 60 minutes of netball. The 2018 ANZ Premiership Elimination Final is here. And to say we’re excited would be an understatement!

The Mainland Tactix are the only thing standing in our way as we aim for a place in this year’s Grand Final … and a shot at defending our title.

Tomorrow night’s South Island showdown is going to be massive. It might be the Tactix first foray into finals netball but we know they are a tenacious team willing to leave everything out on court. Every encounter this year has been a torrid, physical battle and this will be no exception as we both strive to keep out title hopes alive.

There is no place on the planet we would rather be playing this match than at our home court, the Steel Fortress that is ILT Stadium Southland. Oops, I mean Wendy Frew Stadium. 😊 Wow, that still feels surreal! But incredibly humbling.

We need our Steel army out in force and in full voice! Trust me, it has an impact on our performance out on court when the crowd really barracks for us. We feel it and we lift. It’s an incredible experience.

For me personally, there’s a lot of emotion involved with playing my last elite game on home turf in front of the Southland crowd which has supported me so loyally over the past 17 years. I plan to embrace every moment and remember this as such a special time to reflect on in future years.

But I will do that from about 9.05pm tomorrow night. Until then, it’s business time.

Elimination Final

Ascot Park Hotel Southern Steel v Silvermoon Tactix

Match Notes

- When the teams last met in Round 11 the Steel defeated the Tactix 59-56 in Invercargill.

 - The Steel and Tactix have met in six ANZ Premiership matches and the Steel has won five and the Tactix one.

 - The Tactix only win over the Steel came in Round 8 this season, with a 53-52 win in Dunedin.

- The Tactix will contest the finals for the first time in their 11-year history when they meet the Steel in the Elimination Final. The Tactix will be the first Mainland Netball team since the Canterbury Flames in the 2006 National Bank Cup, to play finals Netball in an elite week-in week-out competition.

- The Tactix have set a swag of new club records in 2018; they claimed the most wins in a season with seven wins beating five in 2008 & 2009; claimed a finals place for the first time in their 11-year history; recorded their highest ANZ Premiership score of 62-goals against the Magic in Round 13; won the first ANZ Premiership match decided in extra time in Round 1 against the Stars and they beat the Steel, Pulse and Magic for the first time in the ANZ Premiership.
