A Word from Wenz
There was a rare occurrence in the Steel camp last week. Believe it or not, for the first time this season we got two days off in a row! It’s the small things which sometimes make the biggest difference when you’re in the midst of an intense netball campaign.
For me, it meant two uninterrupted days of family time with Trent, Archie and Indie - now that’s what I call absolute bliss! The tranquillity of Lake Te Anau was the perfect backdrop for a relaxing break and I relished every minute of it.
Of course, my Steel family is never far away and it was fun to be joined by the Selby-Rickit siblings - Te Huinga, Te Paea and their ‘little’ brother Manaaki (all 2.04m of him!).
With the batteries recharged, the focus is now back on the task at hand as we enter the race to the ANZ Premiership finals. Just six round robin games remain with tonight’s top of the table clash against the Pulse the first challenge.
The looming battle between one of the competition’s strongest defensive combinations in Katrina Grant and Phoenix Karaka up against our attacking powerhouse of Jhaniele and Te Paea has been highly-anticipated. Now I may be a tad biased, but I reckon the midcourt showdown will also prove a thriller as we try to halt the flow of ball into our respective shooting combinations.
This league is definitely heating up as team’s strive for a spot in the finals. The Stars have produced two upset wins over the Mystics and Magic in the past week and will head south to Invercargill on Sunday intent on claiming another scalp. We’ve got just three home games remaining and now is the time for our Steel fans to come out in force and add that all-important 8th player to our team!
See you courtside at our Steel fortresses! #standbehindthesteel Cheers, Wenz
