Southern Steel Co-captain, Megan Hutton | | Southern Steel began the ANZ Championship with a clash against the NSW Swifts in Sydney. Co-captain Megan Hutton discusses the game… The team felt pretty good going into the game against the Swifts. The first half was a great half and we held our own, but in saying that we also let our 5-1 lead slip, we started to fight from behind and we couldn't get those couple of turnovers that would have put us in front. With the score even at half time it was anybody’s game but unfortunately for us our third quarter was not flash and let the score margin go quite considerably. We have to look at the positives from that game but also there is a lot that we need to work on before taking on the Pulse this week. We can't change anything about the loss but need to move on and concentrate on our games coming up With round one over and first game jitters out of the way, Southern Steel are looking forward to their round two clash with the Central Pulse… For us to beat the Pulse we need to take it to them in the first quarter, we need a great start and work on an error free game, no 50-50 passes and score from our turnover ball in defense. We know as a team that you need a good start you don't want to be playing catch up netball from the first quarter. And how did you feel personally with your first game as co-captain? With me coming into the squad late, I was quite happy with Jenny-May taking care of the leadership duties in Sydney. She has been there right from the start so I am quite happy at the moment just making sure that I know all the team structures etc. It is going to be a busy year for the captains. There is a lot to do on and off the court, especially with the coaches not been able to have their usual input at timeouts during the game. |
Wendy Telfer | | Player Profile : Wendy Telfer Going into the Swifts match how did you feel? I was very excited about getting the season underway. We have been training really hard and I was looking forward to getting out on court and putting it all into practice. You came on at WD in the 3rd quarter, when Robyn said you were going on how did you feel? I was stoked to get the nod! I like being on court and I wanted to get out there and get into the game. It was a great feeling to get out onto court and get amongst it. First game nerves are out of the way, what are a few of your goals for the season? Its good to have the first game done with now, we just need to build on our game plan and work extremely hard for the results we want. Second round clash with the Pulse how do you think that will go? I think we need to come out firing after our disappointing 1st round loss. We need to play a good solid 60 minute game of netball and take it to the Pulse. |
