After a long stint away together in the opening rounds, it was nice to get a couple of days off earlier in the week.

Most people relaxed, did some recovery and I assume a lot of naps were taken.

We had team training in Invercargill in preparation for the Magic game tomorrow at ILT Stadium Southland. We focussed on some possession drills as our turnover to score percentage was a lot lower than we would like in the last game. With the heat that hit Invers this week, that type of training definitely saw a lot of the girls sweating pretty hard!

We also had Donna Wilkins in this week for a specialist coaching session which was really valuable. We know the Magic defensive end is tall, rangy and able to pick up ball so that’s something we’re looking to combat this week.

It was exciting to get the 2019 Wall of Steel up in our home fortress so make sure you check it out. We’re all hugely looking forward to having the home crowd behind us for the first time this year and wanting to put out a really good performance.

Match Notes

• When the teams last met in Round 12 last season the Steel defeated the Magic 75-58 on Super Sunday in Auckland.

• The Steel has won all six previous meetings between the teams in the ANZ Premiership.

• The Magic’s 80-goal match total in their Round 2 match against the Pulse is the second lowest score in the ANZ Premiership after their 78-goal match total against the Pulse in Round 1, 2018.

• The Magic held the Pulse to 43-goals in Round 2, which is the lowest score the Magic have conceded in the ANZ Premiership.

• Steel shooter Lenize Potgieter will play against her former team for the first time after spending the 2017 and 2018 ANZ Premiership seasons playing for the Magic.



• The Steel has won all four quarters in their past two matches against the Tactix and Mystics.

• The Mystics were the least accurate team in Round 1, shooting 39 goals at just 72.2% accuracy.
