A Word from Wenz
The Steel Olympic Games resulted in plenty of hi-jinx and hilarity at training this week. It’s a fair assumption we aren’t just a competitive bunch on the netball court. Representing five countries, we competed in a range of events, including sprints, triathlon, medicine ball shot put, endurance run and a tug-of-war. We’ve had a gruelling schedule of games with four in 11 days and spend a fair whack of time training so it’s always fun to mix it up every now and then. Our Jae emerged as Usain Bolt’s long-lost cousin with a sprint effort the fastest man in the world himself would be impressed with. Those long limbs certainly proved an asset when striding out against the nippy midcourters. Congrats to Jae and her Fiji team-mates Ngawai and Abby for their gold medal efforts. Jamaica, featuring Gina, Te Paea and Lauren earned the silver while the India team of Shannon, Te Huinga and Corina clinched bronze. Check out the photos on our Photo Gallery - they’re pretty entertaining! At the halfway point of the ANZ Premiership, we now turn our attention to a rematch against the Tactix in Dunedin this Sunday. Our last outing might have produced three new records for the Steel franchise but no opposition can be taken lightly in this competition. We know the Tactix have been under tough scrutiny in recent weeks and that will no doubt provide plenty of fuel. As always, we’ll be focused on achieving our own objectives from the game, sticking to our structures and continuing to build as a team. It’s our first home game in Dunedin for the season and it will be great to see the netball community out in force to add their energy to ours at the Edgar Centre. Cheers, Wenz

Who Knew?!
When the sides met for the first time in ANZ Premiership Round 4 the Steel defeated the Tactix 90-41 in Christchurch.
The Steel was held to their lowest score of the season by the Pulse in their 63-50 win in Invercargill in Round 6.
The Steel and Tactix played 18 matches in the former Trans-Tasman Netball League with the Steel winning 14, the Tactix three and there was one draw. The Tactix last win over the Steel was in 2012. Ellie Bird made her ANZ Premiership debut for the Tactix against the Mystics on Wednesday night in Auckland. Bird entered the match at goal shoot during the third quarter and finished the match with shooting stats of 22/25 at 88%.
