A Word from Wenz
I got a text last night telling me just a handful of tickets are left on sale for tomorrow's game against the Mystics and it will no doubt be a sellout. How cool is that? As a team, it's a wicked feeling to know we have so much support behind us. We believe in ourselves and what we are striving to achieve and to hear we will be playing in front of a packed house just really reinforces the fact our community share our belief.
Adding to the occasion, our formidable defender Storm Purvis is set to play her 50th game for Steel, while coach Noeline Taurua will rack up her 100th ANZ Championship game at the helm of a team.
While we added another two points to our tally, Monday night's game against the Pulse in Wellington definitely felt like a tough grind out there. The Pulse executed arguably their best performance of the season so far while we struggled to regain our momentum after the bye. Lessons were learned and will prove important as we continue our 2016 journey.
With the hunt for finals now in full swing, we know our kiwi counterparts are gunning for us as they seek to secure a spot in the playoffs. But we are just as determined to achieve our goals and would love to reward our community - our Steel family - with a home final for the first time in the ANZ Championship's nine-year history. It helps fuel our motivation as we head into another crucial game.
Second behind us in the NZ Conference standings, the Mystics are a team boasting several international players and can pack plenty of punch if you let them. We are looking forward to the challenge and hope you are too! If you're heading along to "our house" make sure you bring plenty of decibels!
Cheers, Wendy Frew
PS: Don't forget we will have collectors for our charity Ronald McDonald House South Island at the game and any contribution you can make would be greatly appreciated.
