Steel relishing the opportunity to return to home territory

The Ascot Park Hotel Southern Steel are excited about the chance to play in front of home fans during the next two rounds of the ANZ Premiership.

After seven weeks on the road due to the centralised COVID-19 season restart, the Steel are set to host back-to-back matches in Invercargill this Friday and Saturday before heading to Dunedin for their final match of round robin on Sunday 16 August.

Match Notes

When the teams last met in Round 7 this season the Steel defeated Mystics 47-41.

The Mystics are just one win away from equalling their most wins in an ANZ Premiership season.

Mystics Captain Phoenix Karaka will play her 100th combined National League match against the Steel.

Steel defender Abby Erwood will play her 50th combined National League match if she takes the court against the Mystics.

The Pulse are coming off a 42-44 loss to the Mystics in Round 8, their first loss off the 2020 season.

The Pulse have never beaten the Steel in five previous ANZ Premiership meetings in Invercargill. The Steel and Pulse have met 11 times in Invercargill across the ANZ Championship and Premiership and the Steel has won nine of 11.

Katrina Rore will play her 200th combined National League match against the Steel in Invercargill.

Yvette McCausland-Durie will coach the Central Pulse for the 100th time against the Steel in Round 9. McCausland-Durie coached the Pulse in the ANZ Championship between 2009 and 2011 before returning in 2017 at the start of the ANZ Premiership.
