Team Talk
What an intro to the 2019 season. Our opening clash against the Stars was definitely a game of ups and downs. We were disappointed with the slow start and the lack of connection at times but really heartened by the fight back and the ‘never say die’ attitude.
Heading into the Tactix game on Tuesday night, we were determined to put out a more consistent performance. We wanted to see better energy, intensity and connections throughout. I reckon we can tick that box and we’re satisfied with the 20-goal win.
It was nice to be on the right side of the scoreboard as it’s a good boost heading into our last game on the road - a classic north v south battle against the Mystics in Auckland tomorrow.
We know the Mystics are physically tough after having a close encounter with them in preseason. But if we stick to the game plan, bring the energy and focus, I’m confident we can bank more points on the competition ladder.
Although it has been a tough week with three games in three different cities in just six days, the silver lining is being on tour with the girls. We genuinely like hanging out and it’s been a heck of a lot of fun with plenty of laughs.
With the coaches scheduling trainings for the morning, we’ve had the afternoons off which has given us plenty of time to bond and explore Christchurch. A definite highlight has been watching the Oscar-winning film Green Book (grab some popcorn and make sure you see it) and exploring the super cool Margaret Mahy playground. Yeah, we really are just kids at heart!
Cheers, Te Huinga
