Historic win for Pulse over Steel

by Kate Buchanan

The Central Pulse made history last Saturday – unfortunately at the expense of the Ascot Park Hotel Southern Steel.

Notching up its first victory over the southern franchise since the ANZ Championship’s inception in 2008, the 47-42 win in Napier was no doubt sweetly satisfying for a Pulse team determined to have an impact in 2012.

For the Steel however, it was a frustrating defeat which resulted from a failure to establish any consistent rhythm, most notably on attack.

Not the end of the world yetDemelza McCloud

by Demelza McCloud

Don’t you just love the rollercoaster of emotions a week in sport can take you on. Last week we went from the jubilation, joy and relief of winning our first match to within seven days finding ourselves in a trough of misery, grief and depression at losing for the first time to Central Pulse.

To make it worse, I’m quite possibly the world’s most terrible loser. Not in a bad sportsmanship type of way, but in a severe personal turmoil and hatred kind of way. In the space of 90 minutes I went from exclaiming to our girls, ‘how great is our job’ to questioning why I even bother. However it’s that passion that drives my motivation to win, that keeps me on this rollercoaster, and loving it, through those extreme highs and disappointing lows.
